Wars without Gunpowder
Hey, it’s me again. Here comes to the end of April, a weekend as well. But, we are demanded to stay at home due to the out burst of the pandemic in Shanghai recently.
Kind of exhausted when you stay at home for almost 30 days.
Well, I would like to write memories about the world from 2019 to now in my eyes, about the wars without gunpowder.
COVID-19
Late May, 2019: Pandora’s Box
My wife and I happened to visit Wuhan City in the year 2019. When we arrived the airport, we saw pictures about 7th CISM Military World Games to be held later in the year.
We enjoyed the Sakura covered Wuhan University very much, which turned out to be the last Sakura show before COVID-19.
No one knew at that time that this international sports event was going to bring about a wide spread plague.
Mid Dec, 2019: Prelude of the Pandemic
I visited Macau in the middle of Dec. Up to now, that would be the last time when I crossed the border and visit the S.A.R.
But, at that time, mysterious medical cases of pneumonia bursted out in Wuhan. Reports about those cases then drew the attention of the whole country, then the whole world.
People lived in freedom at that time, in which few people would wear face masks outdoors and international traveling would be nothing but normal for me.
Early Jan, 2020: Terror in White
Things changed later in January 2020. I remembered when I came to my office, some passengers on metro trains chose to wear face masks.
Domestic news kept reporting the development of this mysterious pneumonia. It showed the feature of super infectious and some patients in Wuhan city started to show the sympton of suffocation.
With the time goes, the mysterious pneumonia started to spread.
Late Jan, 2020: The Most Tough Spring Festival Ever
Wuhan city gradually developed to a “Purgatory” on Earth, in which thousands of infected cases were reported every day.
Hardly no one would literally enjoy the 2020 Spring Festival. Actually I planned to visit Hong Kong during the festival.
I got the tourist endorsement in advance. But, when the departure date came closer, a new international travelling policy was released, mandating all international travellers to stay in designated isolation hotel room for at least 7 days on arrival back from international areas.
Due to the policy, I canceled all my trips. It was later proven to be a wise move.
The whole country was locked down for nearly a month after the Spring Festival. The days when we had to work from home could still flash back in front of my eyes like movies frames.
Many small businesses could not make it during this period. People lost their jobs.
Hospitals could not venture the risk to take patients with mysterious symptons because the virus was super infectious.
A movie, named “Chinese Doctors” , was produced later in 2021, narrating some typical moments during that period of time.
I was so touched when I watched this movie for the first time. Touched with empathy.
Early Feb, 2020: Hope Shone in Despair
People from the whole country were drawn into despair. Especially the ones lived in Wuhan City.
No one knew when would the pandemic come to an end.
But, when there is despair, there is hope. The country showed its power and determination. People from the whole country showed the discipline and consciousness.
2 new hospitals were build from the ground in only 10 days in Wuhan, the heroic city. 10 days, from the design part to the final delivery of the hospitals with the capacity of 1,000 patients each.
I conclude with pride that no other country can accomplish the mission impossible in such efficiency as China did.
Mid May, 2021: Encountered the Risky Area, Accidentally
My wife and I visited Guangzhou City in May 2021. One of the districts of Guangzhou City was later labeled as risky area after we got back.
Although we didn’t visit the “risky” area during our trip, I have to say that I had never felt the anxiety and fear before this trip. When people from the community kept calling you to check if you had ever set foot to the “risky” area, you felt something unusual happened.
When news about the infected cases in Guangzhou City bombarded your web browsers, you might feel anxious about the potential biological hazard that you might bring to the ones who you cared about and who you love.
It’s a pretty awful experience.
Mid Apr. 2022: British Kids Suffering from Mysterious Hepatitis
I don’t know what the heck is going on with the world right now. I loathe some high-tech biopharmaceutical companies using technology as a weapon against billions of innocent people around the globe.
Obviously the mysterious hepatitis was one of the reasons why I write this post. Hope we will never see those vicious high-tech conspiracies ever again. Hope our world will be in peace and prosper. And we will never suffer from any wars no matter with or without gunpowder ever again.
